The Painted Hand Disaster Response Training Society stands at the forefront of an urgent need for enhanced wildfire training within First Nations communities. Our team consists of First Nation Firefigthers, Emergency Managers and experienced industry experts. We invite stakeholders and supporters to join us in this vital endeavor, ensuring that our communities are equipped, knowledgeable, and resilient in the face of future wildfire challenges.
Our goals are to:
Promote Community Engagement and Capacity Building: Encourage participation from First Nation community members across Western Canada, supporting their growth and resilience in the face of wildfire threats.
Combine Traditional Knowledge with Western Method: Integrate the rich traditional ecological knowledge of First Nations with contemporary firefighting techniques, facilitating a robust learning environment.
Offer Certification Courses: Provide a wide variety of industry-recognized certification courses for wildland and structural firefighting, ensuring participants are qualified to respond to emergencies effectively.
Facilitate Knowledge Exchange: Establish a diverse cohort of instructors and students, creating a space for sharing expertise that enhances the overall firefighting capability of First Nations communities.
